UMK InsPeK has implemented the Meheliah Ocean Social Enterprise Hub Key Handover ceremony for the Barakah Valley Program: Downstream Product Processing Social Enterprise Hub.
This ceremony and program symbolize another step forward in ensuring the project's sustainability and the continuity of benefits to the target community. This initiative demonstrates that collaboration between higher education institutions and the community can have a significant impact on social and economic development, while also supporting the community's well-being agenda in an inclusive and continuous manner.
The establishment of Mehiliah Ocean has become a symbol of the success of empowering the cottage community to venture into entrepreneurship in a more organized and competitive manner. Through this initiative, community participants received intensive training in food processing techniques using technology such as an Insoler Dryer, product development, packaging, and marketing strategies. This approach not only adds value to local products but also opens up more sustainable income generation opportunities.
This ceremony was officiated by YBrs. Prof. Dr. Wan Ahmad Amir Zal bin Wan Ismail (Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation, UMK), who was attended by Dr. Ahmad Fahme bin Mohd Ali (InsPeK Director, UMK), Prof. Associate Dr. Derweanna binti Bah Simpong (Project Leader), Dr. Ervin Gubin Moung (Deputy Director of PPP Operations, UMS), and Ustaz Nik Mahyuddin Bin Nik Ismail (Mudir, Pondok Mehiliah, Kg Geting, Tumpat), UMK Researchers, members of InsPeK, and Pondok Community.
